    Default Glock 17 or XDM-9?

I'm looking for a home defense handgun. (Already have the 18" 12 ga. for home and a PPS to carry). I'd like your thoughts on Glock 17 or 19 vs Springfield XD or XDM.

That is more of an individual taste question than anything else. I own a 17, a 19 and an XD9. For me, the grip angle of the XD is much more comfortable than either of the Glocks. Because of that I would lean toward the XD. My recommendation to you though would be to go to a range that rents out all of the pistols that you are interested in and rent/fire each of them. That is the only way that you will be able to tell what is best for you.

    Glocks are incredibly, incredibly reliable.

Regarding a 17 vs a 19, which fits your hand better? Concealment isn't an issue for home defense.

I do not think that you could go wrong with either a Glock or a XD. They are both great guns and you will be happy with either. Should go at least feel them and see which one is more comfortable in your hand and shoot them if you have a chance.

If you truly believe that there is another magazine ban in our immediate future, then the Glock. Standard capacity mags are cheap and readily available right now.

I do not believe that to be true, yet, for the XDM.

    Otherwise, both are quality firearms.

Disclaimer: While it is possible, I don't necessarily believe that another mag ban imminent. However, the current buying surge indicates that many people do.

    i vote glock 17.

    random reasons:

glocks fit my hands much better than XDs do and, imho, the grip angle of a glock is superior to that of an XD/1911 (they seem to have very similar grip angles).

the glock 17 has a long track record of being perhaps the most reliable semi-auto pistol ever made. that isn't to say that XDs are not also very reliable guns, though.

glocks absolutely do not rust (every piece of metal ever made for any purpose should be given the tennifer treatment ). early XDs, at least, did have rust issues...though i think they may have worked that issue out.

the only reason to get a G19 over a G17 is if you want to conceal it and have problems concealing a G17. personally, i have no problem concealing a G17, so, for me, there is no reason to ever get a G19.

This is a non ending argument. You have to shoot them yourself and see which you prefer.

Some like the feel of a Glock. Some don't. Some like the feel of a XD. Some don't. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere and shoot them. Asking us is like asking which car is better. It is all a matter of opinion. And yours is all that counts when your buying the pistol. Heck you may find out you prefer an M&P.

With that said. Buy the XDM.
