Re: Good News: Interior Announces Final Firearms Policy Update
You are probably still going to have to check with the park that you're visiting (IMHO) since there are things that may be allowed for the overall park service that might not be allowed in that specific park (ie geochacing)

Re: New rule eases ban on firearms in national parks
"Once again, political leaders in the Bush administration have ignored the preferences of the American public by succumbing to political pressure, in this case generated by the National Rifle Association," said Bill Wade, president of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees.

Re: Good News: Interior Announces Final Firearms Policy Update
First, great news!!!!
But there is an unanswered question.
Concealed carry is now explicitly legal as subject to state law "except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law", by amendment of two paragraphs of the federal regs.
But is there then any other sections which would prohibit carry that was not explicitly allowed by the two sections?
In other words would open carry be prohibited even where allowed by state law?

Re: Good News: Interior Announces Final Firearms Policy Update
I disagree. The Park Service does not have a policy explicitly allowing or prohibiting any GPS activities. They have issued a "policy review", but no final blanket decision has ever been formalized.
If any NPS staff challenge/cite/arrest someone for carrying under the new guidelines, they're going to have a problem on their hands.Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Re: Good News: Interior Announces Final Firearms Policy Update
I only know one retired NPS ranger and that person is a total dickwad.
Any rangers out there? Is this the typical situation where the people actually doing the work are good guys but a lot of the jokers in the upper pay grades who play politics to set policy are cluless? Or is it generally believed in the park service that we shall obey their federal authoritay?
