Bill Richardson for Commerce Secretary-- Change Indeed
After spitting in the face of his primary supporters by appointing Killary, whom he supposedly strongly disagreed with on foreign-policy issues, to Secretary of State, Obama continues to serve up his idea of "change" by appointing yet another Clinton-era crony to his cabinet.
Now appointing a pro-Second Amendment Dem like Richardson to, say, Attorney General, may have really represented "change", but appointing him to Commerce Secretary represents more of the same-- corporate control of government, which might at least comfort some here who were convinced Obama was some sort of "socialist".
Lemme 'splain, Lucy...Richardson was formerly Secretary of Energy under Clinton, and when he left office he went on to serve on the corporate boards of a couple of big energy companies including Valero. This all-too common occurence in Washington is part of what William Greider calls "The Iron Triangle" of corporate influence in government. In other words, Richardson ain't any different than Cheney or Bush in his sleazy, albeit legal, connections with energy companies, before and/or after holding government posts that have influence over energy policy. In fact, this information was embarassing enough to Richardson during this year's Democratic primary season that he stepped down from these boards (but held onto the stock).
There's yer change folks-- more of the same bullshit with better-sounding rhetoric. Can't wait to see how he screws us in the unions with his Labor pick. So everyone who thought Obama was gonna be the next Stalin or the next Khomeni can rest easy-- he's quickly proving himself to be just another typical Washington politician...a corrupt bullshit artist.Last edited by Eugene V. Re: Bill Richardson for Commerce Secretary-- Change Indeed
With the exception of AG nominee Holder, most of Obama's appointments have been centrists. So far, it's better than I expected...
I don't expect holder to get approved...

I got a good laugh when someone at work noticed that many of these same people were involved in the Clinton Administration. I had to remind them that there are only two parties and Obama is a Democrat. Like where else was he going to find people that would support his policy.
But I thought that at least a few Republican could be added to the cabinet. Maybe Robert Gates counts as one, for now.
There are still a few important post left so I still hold out hope. And I agree that they haven't gone and filled the place with the ultra liberals.
