Default AR15 buffer was slamming its retaining pin- fixed

To my surprise, my hardly shot higher-end carbine had five deep impacts on the face of the buffer. This surface should never touch the pin if the rear of bolt/buffer face relationship is correctly dimensioned and the drilled blind hole located in the threads of the upper receiver is located in the correct place. The common fix is an easy one...purchase an offset retainer pin which allows the face of the buffer to extend further forward toward the rear of the bolt. This creates a relationship wherein the rear of the bolt keeps the buffer from using the pin as home.

There have been occasional reports of broken retaining pins winding up in the fire control group, with jamming effect. The fix is easy, cheap, and worth looking into.

This doesn*t happen if the parts are in specification. Something is off dimension.

Yep. Zachary what I wrote. Misplaced retainer hole is common for some reason.

The cheap fix is just remove the retainer, it only makes a difference when cleaning.

True. Which I had done for a while at some point over the years. Didn't like it for some reason that I've since forgotten.

A brand new 35.00 in spec. upper would solve the issue.

What brand and did you contact the manufacturer? I’m sure they’ll take care of the issue.

The issue is taken care of, for $9.99. The carbine is a Spike's Tactical, which I bought from an acquaintance in 2008.

    The $9.99 cure: https://kakindustry.com/ar15-offset-...-retainer-pin/

I posted this thinking the information might be of help to someone having this reportedly common issue.
