    Default ceasefire-rebuttal

how about a faith roll call for the new ceasefire squirmish?
As I posted in the PA secton:
As I see it, if Ceasefire-Miller thinks to sway the religous right wing conservatives in the country of PA, he is going to have his work cut out for him.
On the other hand I believe we should be taking an active role in reaching out to the "city" churches of PA, and we will have our work cut out for us also.
Dan mentioned in the club he's intersted in seeing more involvment, I am not sure what type he's referencing. Maybe politically.
I am thinking those of us who are so inclined (faith wise-for this effort), might like to counter Millers efforts on our own.

So I am thinking...how about some of us work on a flier, mailer, to send out or take to city and country churches to counteract Millers antics.

    What say you?

I may not be of the "faith inclined" but I applaud your idea and effort.

I was briefly checking out the site on God not Guns. The statements for faith communities...suggested prayers...their purpose.
    I agree with the fact that gun violence has escalated, I think we all can agree on that much. I agree bad people get guns (they always will). I would like to eliminate all violence, and I wish it weren't necessary to defend ourselves. They have some beautiful quotes and passages;
I would love to live in Utopia.
One day, as a born again believer, I will be in heaven.
For now, I am an earth bound sociologist and have watched and been fascinated by trends in various societies.
Emile Durkheim studied/wrote about understanding the abnormal to understand the normal. You can hypothetically insert most given "abnormal" societal issues, study them and find their root/basis is contingent on the melt down of the cohesive society.
    (incohesive = abnormal, cohesive=normal)
(Gun control = Hitler, freedom from oppression=minutemen)
ie the gun violence is not the start of the breakdown, it is the result of a much larger societal problem.
I am of the persuasion, that to fix a problem you must start at the beginning of it not at the result of it.-

I don't agree that gun violence has escalated. From my understanding, gun crime is down over the past 30 years, or so.

Can you cite your source for the above statement?

I'm not being confrontational; I'm simply interested to know how you arrived at that position.
