Using mapping and GPS software, a new optics company hopes to reduce trespassing and poaching by obscuring private property

A consortium of digital mapping firms, A.I. developers, and traditional optics companies today unveiled a new binocular that prevents users from scouting private land unless they subscribe to what they call a “viewshed permission” app. The Private Land Observation Platform (PLOP) allows users to glass public land without constraints. However, private property is veiled behind a digital haze unless users subscribe to mapping software that “unlocks” viewscapes with an annual subscription.

so poachers and smart people will just buy the cheap ones from china/rest of the world, used or from another company that isn't this dumb. are they going to compensate the private land owners after someone pays their annual subscription?

In all fairness it*s April Fools, not April First Fools. April 1 may be the day most people think, but any day in April still counts.

I*ve used this as an excuse to pull April fools jokes for years after April 1 when people think they are safe and aren*t expecting anything.
