A gun is always a good option to have, but not always the appropriate one. In this case it may have been problematic in a group of six entangled cougars.

Must have been one hell of a fight. Even a small pistol would have been nice. On my mountain bike I had a holster that I modified and attached to the goose neck with a hose clamp. It worked like a charm. My fear was never cougars but feral yutes.
