I'd like to thank everyone that replied in thread. I'm definitely going to go mid-length over carbine gas system.

Here's a few current deals at PSA - most have a 13.5" handguard.
Everyone has their own preference for handguard length and that should be fine, but depending on where you grip your rifle, having a 15" can be beneficial for forward mounting of a light.

    Anyway...

And since you mentioned getting a red dot, I'll throw this out there...

Primary Arms gives you free shipping on your entire order when you buy any of their Primary Arms optics.

Sometimes the planets align and you can find a deal on an upper AND a sale on their optics and take advantage of the shipping savings.

I can hold out for a deal. Still trying to decide whether to go 16" or 18". (to be honest, probably going 16")

I doubt I'll go with a pencil barrel though. I want something as stiff as the M4 profile, or stiffer. That BLEM PSA 16" MID-LENGTH 5.56 NATO 1:7 NITRIDE 13.5" HEX M-LOK UPPER. W/ OUT BCG-CH you linked to is basically what I want.

I have a gift card at Amazon that I may use to cover part of my optics purchase. ...a Christmas gift from work. Its a shame they don't allow full uppers to be sold there.

I wish they'd offer that barrel with the light weight mlok handguard they used to always have on sale.

12% off sale. Ends soon, but doesn't say when exactly.
They run the 12% off sales regularly though.

This upper is marked down to $249 and after the code SAVE12 it's $220

    Mid length.
Nice, long handguard - I personally prefer more M-Lok slots, but that's me.
Unsure if the muzzle device is a plus, or not, but at least it's not a $4 birdcage like almost every gun has.

By the time I saw your post above it was already back up to $399 for that unit.

I immediately ordered a BCA unit, a right side charging instead of rear, but includes BCG. $216+tax and shipping. It should be arriving by UPS today.

Now it is time to figure out what red dot and offset iron sights to order. I see that China has flooded the market with red dot reflex and scopes. ...which most seem to have pretty good reviews, surprisingly enough.

I remain a fan of prism scopes, sort of the best of both worlds between a red dot and magnified optic.
