Phil, what would you suggest we do in a situation like this? I know it's illegal, but we're supposed to follow officer's orders during a stop, it's a conundrum. I see so much conflicting stuff on the YouToobz, my head spins.

Absolutely no question this was not legal. But pretty much the comments at the end say there's nothing to be done about it, practically speaking.

When the cop asks if the gun is registered, does that mean the MD carry permit is attached to one specific weapon ?

I don't think the carry permit is attached to a particular gun, but they do have a purchase license that would be attached to the gun.

In MD they call it HQL, Handgun Qualification License, and it's good for 10 years.
It is not required for each handgun purchase, rental, or transfer, but it's
certainly easy to see how records could be kept and updated.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

There is no safe harbor when agents of the government exceed their authority at gunpoint.

I wouldn't have my gun visible from the window.

    I wouldn't volunteer that I have a gun.

I would evade any direct questions about the contents of my car. If they have no right to search, they have no right to demand that I tell them what a search would find.

I would be cordial throughout, and not threaten a Section 1983 action while 2 armed, lawless friends of the DA have me on the side of the road.

If I could, I'd stream the audio/video direct to someplace they couldn't just grab and destroy.

From their thug-speak I'd be more concerned they were impostors.

My sister has her license to carry in Ohio, which is a duty to inform state. Apparently, Maryland is like Pennsylvania where one is legally required to produce their 'CCW papers' if asked. Sorry if this was already mentioned.

I probably need lessons on how to evade direct questions without causing further suspicion... and I don't think that saying, "I have nothing illegal in my car" would win me favors.

For some reason, I thought that OH eliminated that duty to inform.

Yes. I think around 2022 when they also started permitted carry.

Right you are. They align with PA as of last year...

In light of the updated Ohio concealed carry laws, it's crucial for you to understand your duty to inform law enforcement about your concealed firearm. Under these laws, you're not required to immediately inform law enforcement officers during a stop that you're carrying a concealed weapon. However, if an officer asks if you're armed, Ohio law requires you to truthfully answer.
