The spring pressure against the gate is much higher and the gate itself is narrower. It*s easier to load .44s and .45s as well.

Totally agree, but I usually thin the metal of the spring portion of the gate to make loading easier and not as hard on my thumb when pushing in the last round loaded.

I've never understood the appeal of the mare's leg. Other than the cool factor, it seems like a novelty to me. And nothing wrong with getting something just because it's cool or a novelty. If it were, half my collection would be wrong.

This makes no sense to me. A mare's leg doesn't hold enough to be practical, so the added expense of a tax stamp and a stock doesn't seems worth the effort. But to each their own, I supposed.

I would consider SBR'ing the new Henry Lever Action Supreme in .300BLK, however. It takes AR mags, so no worries about a short magazine tube.

I got tired of ripping up my finger nails or Mrs Ronin ruining her manicure, so I just made a push stick.

Why does it have to make sense ? It just has to be fun.

I can see a mare's leg being fun for about a minute, but paying for a tax stamp and a stock for a range toy just doesn't appeal to me. If it does to you, rock on. Everyone's gotta do what works for them.
