Default Optic Mounting on Marlin 25M

Hello. I have an old Marlin 25M on which I would like to mount an optic. I haven't been able to find any resources online and it appears there may be a very thin dovetail on the top that may work. I have attached photo. Thank you for all of your help!

3/8" dovetail groove rimfire rings are what you want.

I put a BSA Sweet .22 scope on my son's. It was his first rifle.

It's very accurate despite the 27 lb trigger pull.

Thank you for the reply. I found these on Amazon of that size. Think they will do the trick? https://a.co/d/9hdJPay

How are the BSA scopes? I have never heard of that brand and was looking at a Vortex.

    This is correct.
Bad scopes are cheap and cheaply made but should be fine for that rifle.

Those rings should work with the rifle, maybe even a bit overkill.

You don't need a high-dollar scope for a .22(outside of competition shooting). It won't be suffering from heavy recoil and you wont be taking 500-1000yd shots. Practically any inexpensive scope will suffice. You do get what you pay for though. I'd avoid Chinesium stuff though, and stick with something cheap from a company who's name has been around a few years/decades. For me, BSA Optics(formed 1996) is just within the range I'd buy, but certainly okay enough for a .22RF or air rifle.

It depends on tube diameter the scope you're using.

BSA make a good low priced scope. I like the Sweet .22 for plinking, hunting, range toy. Vortex makes good scopes. I have a few of them. They go from low priced to more expensive higher quality optics.

Edit: I posted this hours ago but it seemed to mysteriously disappear.

Any scope I buy has to have adjustable objective, whether as a dial on the left turret or the objective bell itself. None-adjustable .22 scopes are parallax set at 50 yards, a kind of compromise. To me, the few more dollars to obtain an AO scope is well worth it.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

So I received the rings from Amazon and they do not work with the rifle. It appears that I cannot tighten them to the extent needed to securely hold the rifle. Any suggestions?
