gifting a shotgun to my brother

I'm pretty sure this is OK but thought I'd run it by you guys first. Is it legal for me to purchase a shotgun and gift it to my brother for Christmas? He has nothing that would disqualify him from owning any firearm.

From what I know:

Assuming you are both residents of PA and that your brother is legally allowed to possess a shotgun, just hand it over. Nothing 'official' is required.

In Pennsylvania, as long as both parties are PA residents, long guns generally don't carry any stipulations for transfer between private parties, so long as the seller/giver doesn't have reason to suspect that the recipient is a prohibited person.

Now, with handguns it gets a bit hairier...

The transfer is not a problem. The initial purchase is the sticking point, where you are buying a gun while you intend to transfer it to someone else, so you are not going to be the actual owner.

Bona fide gifts of long guns should be OK, and not considered "straw purchases". However, if you bought it while intending to sell it, it's not only a straw purchase, it's engaging in the business without an FFL.
