Default Mossberg Shotgun with camo finish rust prevention?

Does anyone know if the factory camo finish on Mossberg shotguns provides rust protection versus standard blued barrels and receivers?

I know Smith and Wesson makes their stainless Marine shotgun for rough environments .I could also buy something and Cerakote it. But curious about the Mossberg as I can’t seem to really find details on the finish and if it’s only cosmetic.

I have an 835 12 gauge pump in factory camo that*s 25 years old or older. It*s gotten rained on hunting ducks and Turkey. The camo will come off with hard use, and things will rust. I see it no better or worse than a blued shotgun, with the exception that I don*t cringe when I touch up camo with spray paint

Thanks. This will be in a year round tough environment. Cerakote may be the best answer.

Do you want camo just for hunting or rust prevention? If the latter, you could always go with the Mariner version of the 590.

I think I bought my Mossberg 835 turkey gun with factory woodland camo in 2000 or 2001, other than a few rub spots in the camo, it's still in excellent condition. BTW, it gets hunted with every year and not babied.

I'll pile on. I have an 835 in mossy oak I believe. 20 years or so of turkey season and it's still holding up great with zero rust. My blued 500 has had some on the barrel (probably from not wiping it off and oiling it properly). It's about 30 years old or so.

Primary goal is rust prevention. Gun will be reside full time in a saltwater air environment. Of course I*d keep it oiled but know that can still be defeated or spots missed. The Remington Marine is on the list but I also saw the Mossies and wondered if the coating provides any rust prevention.

The more I*ve read and a few videos watched I may lean to purchasing something already Cerakoted or purchasing one and doing it.

    Thanks for the replies.
