Problem with new Flintlock. Looking for advice

Details: New to me gun, clean barrel.
Pydrodex powder about 85 grains.
Traditions TPF hunter sabot, 245 grains.
I have the slightly older ones that look like hollow points.

Pan powder 4F.
Took 6 shots, all had excessive burn time.

Solutions:
Bad 4F powder?
Use 3F instead of pyrodex?
Issues with peep hole?

That seems like an issue with the priming powder to me.

Pyrodex works, but doesn't work well. Try real black 2F or 3F if you can.

When you prime the pan with 4F, don't fill the pan all the way - more is NOT better. I usually aim to get it maybe half full, maybe not even that much. If you put a lot of powder in, it tends to have a "fuze" effect rather than fast ignition.

Only ways that is a problem with the gun itself are:
1. The flash hole is constricted - needs cleaned.
2. The flash hole is offset from the pan - lock assembly not positioned property relative to the barrel.

I doubt #2, but wouldn't rule-out #1.

I'm leaning towards powder and/or primer(4F).

While Pyrodex is some neat shit in certain situations, it isn't the best for all purposes. It seams to prefer being set off by caps rather than 4F primer charges.

Then try a dozen or more shots with only a charge in the pan to make sure it always goes poof. Then thoroughly clean / ream your priming touch hole (and make sure all of the oil is removed)..

pretty much what everyone said
1) make sure there is no gap between the lock (pan) and the barrel (if so, eventually this will fill up with loose powder from the pan and fill the inletted voids in the stock and may or may not KB one day
2) poke touch hole EVERY shot, only fill with 4F to the level of the hole
3) before priming use a small brush or better yet an alcohol wipe to clean pan, frizzen and flint of all oils, it will evaporate in seconds...never use your breath to blow out the pan
4) never used Pyrodex so I can not comment, but I'd try 3F powder first I feel much more reliable with a flintlock, I've always thought of Pyrodex as dedicated to the hotter spark of percussion caps
5) make sure the flint is striking the frizzen squarely, not tooo high or too low each rifle has its sweet spot to shower the pan with sparks

Nothing more satisfying in the firearms life than having an utterly reliable flintlock that goes bang 99.9% they are flintlocks so there is always that outlier of click, pifft and nothing

Pyrodex requires a small "starter" charge of black powder in the barrel ahead of it or that is what you will often see.

looks like the pyrodex in your touch hole is causing that fuse like burn.

try 5 gr of whatever black powder you have, followed by 80gr of the pyrodex.

also agree could be an issue with the touch hole but my Hawken has a small hole & never seen this issue.

I would recommend always going with black powder for a flintlock & saving the fake stuff for inlines.

for my pa pellet flintlock i prefer BH209 over pyrodex. seems to burn cleaner and i dont have issues with it going off.
