I seem to recall an incident, maybe in Hamburg, where someone loaded up a shopping cart with ammo and just walked out the front door at a Cabela's. It could be a reaction to that.

That happened at the delaware store.

The law of unintended consequences. If they add a $2.50 background check fee to every ammo purchase then people will only buy in bulk.

...at $2.50, NY will lose money on the background check and administrative costs.

It's not about making money it's about inconveniencing people. There are plenty of times I'm out shopping and run across a good ammo deal or notice a caliber in stock I'm low on and grab some.

This would definitely put a halt to that behavior, I'm not filling out forms and waiting 30-60 minutes for an approval just to get a box of ammo. I bet that's the main point of this bill, not to stop crime.

This type of behavior is how people end up accumulating several thousand rounds of ammo. Most people aren't buying 5k rounds at once but picking up a few hundred here, a few hundred there you end up starting to stockpile. God forbid we stockpile ammo over the years.

If I didn't have to worry about supppy issues and huge price fluctuations I wouldn't stockpile either. The government created the problem, as usual.

I didn't realize that anyone still bought ammo in a store...

...all my ammo has been purchased online, for years, (i.e., I don't care about the wait).
