DCF&S is an old club. It was founded by target shooters and the rules reflect that. Things are changing slowly, but not as quickly as I*d like. It*s still THE choice around here.

Rules is rules and concealed is concealed. Everyone makes choices.

I never went back, never renewed.

There are overwhelmingly sound reasons to allow and even encourage members to carry concealed at a range, the chief one being that thugs can target gun ranges for gun thefts, sometimes accompanied by killing the witnesses. There are documented instances of this. If the range rules specify that the only user at the moment MUST leave his guns at the bench and walk unarmed to check his targets 100 yards away, who exactly is preventing robberies? The rules are requiring that he (a) be unarmed, and (b) leave his guns and ammo where the bad guys can get them.

To paraphrase Willie Sutton, "that's where the guns are".

I stopped going to the game lands ranges alone for just this reason. I carry concealed at all times, but I have no illusions about defending myself against my rifles from 100 yards away with the J frame in my pocket.

Holmesburg Fish & Game states in their rules: 9. Carrying concealed or holstered firearms is prohibited on Association premises.

One reason I will not join, even though it's close and has good hours.

The local indoor pistol ranges have no restrictions with carrying. They don't permit drawing and firing or rapid fire, that's a separate issue.

Yes, concealed carry allowed on the grounds, PMSC. I mean, it's a private gun range, weird they wouldn't allow.

Now on the other hand I've been at PRS matches at the morning brief they ask for no CCWs during the match, which is fine, it's their rules for the events.

If you want to see a club with weird rules, check out Lower Providence. My understanding is that you have to have one of their folks check you out on every piece you want to shoot there. If that one's true, I can only imagine what else they have going on.

This is incorrect. While you do have to qualify to get either hand gun and/or rifle qualified. Once qualified you are allowed to fire any handgun caliber (not sure about .500 S&W and any rifle caliber below 50 BMG. There is a provision for rimfire pistol only, but I don*t know how many simply have that qual.

And while it is rather restrictive, it has to be. It is now completely built up around LPRGC and the neighbors are actively trying to shut it down.

And even with the restrictions I see evidence of either reckless or intentional bad shooting with side cabinets and structures being hit.

You can carry there, but cannot shoot from a holster unless you get Action Certified.

Edit. It looks like .455 Webley is the largest pistol caliber allowed.

Target World in Chalfont and Classic Pistol in Southampton. Not all that close to you, but you could use them as part of your argument.

The club that I belong to has no rules against OC/CC (LTCF holders). Most everyone who attends our monthly meetings carries... and I always feel very safe there.
