I used to ride my XL600 on the street in the snow. Just spinning the back wheel, going through the gears.

That was only if I had it in the basement. That fucker wouldn't kick over if it was under 45 degrees.
I'm trying to get that through my thick head.

I know two guys who fell out of tree stands. One broke his back and died in the hospital. The fall didn't kill him or the broken back. It was blood poisoning. The test showed up during treatment and the lack of proper treatment killed him. The wife and two kids got 6M bucks. Not a fair trade.

The second guy was using screw in steps. Somehow, he slipped and caught the side of his head on one of the steps. He got an ugly gash on his temple. Other than that, he basically walked away.

1970s went to hunt my stand and saw a figure trespassing in the stand. As I approached I heard moaning and discovered a Bowhunter had an arrow with broadhead impaled into right thigh. He accidentally put a lose arrow on platform and subsequently sat on the arrow. a lot of blood loss and luckily another hunter heard the commotion and ran for help while I applied direct pressure. He did survive.

Did you tell him that the next time he poaches someone else's stand, he won't be so lucky?

A few years ago a friend found someone hanging from his tree. The guy hanged himself with his belt.
My freind took a bunch of pictures of him and showed them to me. I told him to get rid of them, it's not cool. Let him be.

When younger, didn't really wear a safety harness, especially when using a climber.

They, a guy who hunted about 30 feet up died from a fall on his 50th birthday.
I started wearing a harness after that.

Lost a coworker back in the early 2000's. He had an API shooting star climber. didn't wear a harness. Had a couple kids. AND the thing is when we were talking about hunting before it happened, he mentioned he had caught himself dozing off.

I told him, wear a damn harness and I had no idea how he could hunt out of an open front climber.

He passed when he fell to a frozen ground at or near the Water Gap.

He was discovered by his friend, another co worker of mine, dead at the base of the tree. He had to have a baseball cap in the open casket due to his head having a dent from the fall and a tree root. It was horrible.

I am a lot older now. I wear the harness even in a ladder stand. Takes a few second to wrap the safety rope around the trunk and attach to my harness.

I have the 2 relief straps in my vest as well and set it so if I fall I can at least get back to the stand if there is one to get back to. Also text when I am in the tree and when I am down out of the tree. Someone always knows where and what time.

We take way too much for granted sometimes.

Sad day when someone passes from a preventable accident or event.

I am phobic about height. I listen to what my system tells me. Got plenty of deer while on the ground. Oddly, never had a sense of height in a small airplane.

40 feet sounds like suicide. It pretty much assures (at least in his mind) he does not live to be a quadriplegic. Possibly planned to appear accidental and kick in the double indemnity for the survivor(s).
