    Default FFL

My daughter wants to order a new AR15 from a local gun store that they don't have in stock. She asked me if she'll need to pay for an FFL and I told her no. Is this correct?

She'll have to pay the transfer fee and pics check unless the guy doesn't charge her.

Right. Some will charge a premium, like the shop that transferred my spas 12 for 85.00

I would find a gun you like on hte internet that ships. They will have it set up to pick an FFL. You can search by zip code on their site. They'll give you a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers. Then you can call to make sure they're receiving guns, and ask what their fee is. Most lately is $25-30 for regular FFL's. Some shops I've seen charge as high as $100. You order your gun, it ships to them, they call you when they receive it and it's ready to be picked up. You go and fill out a form for your PICS background check, wait 15-30min, and then take possession of your firearm.

It sounds to me like she's going to order it off of the LGS and wants to know what fees will be involved. I am not sure but I believe that a rifle purchased from the LGS gets handled the same as a pistol, am I wrong?

Not sure what shop she is using. If the FFL operates like myself and she orders through me, I don't charge any PICS or transfer fee as my markup covers any PICS, etc. I do need paid up-front for the firearm she would order as that is our policy implemented after years of people canceling their special orders.

If she orders from an on-line source the FFL would more than likely charge her a transfer fee depending on what policies they have in place for such procedures.

    Hope that helps some.
