    Default Deer hunting 23/24

Well, here we are with statewide archery deer hunting having started on Sat.
2B did start a couple weeks ago and I was able to climb my tree a couple times although only saw a squirrel clipping butternuts off a tree and carrying them to a stash point next to my shed.

Today was my 3rd time hunting and I was 20 feet up a tree at 6AM with temps about 53 degrees.

I saw my first legal buck this morning about 8:30

    Heres a short video.

Small 7 point in back yard by poofy27, on Flickr

I was watching some turkeys behind me and stood up to stretch when he came walking toward me and just about under my stand.
I had trouble making out the 3rd point ( 3 up here) but would not have shot this young buck anyway.

He was the only deer I saw and was happy to see him. At 10 AM it was 66 degrees and I shot a practice bolt into my discharge bag at 30 yards and called it a day.

My buddy in Titioute passed on a couple doe that came by about 8ish.

I have a couple decent buck but nothing of any size. the 11 point I see on camera at camp has a low wide rack and the 8 and 9 points are a bit more narrow but longer tines..

The 8 and 9 point behind my house are a decent size and are shooters if they would happen by.

No big racked bucks around the areas i hunt. Well, that Ive seen.

Thats it for now. This week will be too warm for me. Next week looks to be cooler.

It was a great day to be in a tree and watching the 7 point made my day.

My friend in Titioute got a doe this morning
    First blood between my friends.

I've passed on a few small doe and very small racked 7 point so far.

Tonite at 710, I sent a bolt 30 yards to my discharge bag which I could barely see.
I gathered my stuff and took off my belt. I liked down and had a buck staring up at me. Ha. It had a decent spread but was too dark to make out how many points it was.
He never spooked and just walked away.

I'll be back out at 6am.

ill be out tomorrow for muzzleloader even with the forecasted rain. looks like maybe brief showers but a steady light rain shouldnt bother the deer.

I heard some local shooting this morning. I saw a buck a few days ago hanging out with a few does. We haven't been in the stands yet, it just seems too warm.

Old Mans and youngsters rifle doe season is coming up.next week.

I shot 5 rifles and my bow yesterday.

The 1903A3 30.06 gets the nod for Thursday. The 7mm mag comes out if necessary on Friday. If I do get out Sat after work, the Tikka .300 winmag might get a shot.

I took my crossbow to the range and got into the 75 yard pistol bay.
The scope has dots for 20 thru 50 and she shot quite well.
The reticle has a thicker portion and I wasn't sure how close it would be to 65 yards.
It hit about 7 inches low at 65 ( a shot I would never take). I limit myself to the 40 yard dot but have only ever shot a deer with it at 30.

Non.of my friends are going out yet.

I've been in my tree quite a few times.

Not sure how long I'll keep climbing up there. Turned 74 today.

    Thank you sir.
The security job I took 2 days a week has me walking
    11K steps each day.
    I don't use the elevator so I climb 96 steps 3 times a day.
This seems to be helping my new knee and bothering the old one.

All in all, not too shabby.

Did you ever get that 338 load working?

I did but then when I needed more bullets, the ones I had been using were nowhere to be found so I had to get different ones and never finished working up the load for them.
