PA to NY State

Is it legal to have a firearm in my car safely unloaded if I drive into NY State to pick up a friend and go back into PA?

One of my sons performed undergrad and now post-grad college in NYS - I always travel armed.......................................

That path you don't have federal transportation law protection, you're beholden to NYS laws. Not sure but I bet they have some crap like you have to go directly to a range or back if you don't have a license.

IANAL but my understanding is that they have two separate permits. The lower grade one allows you to transport your gun back and forth to a range and the other one allows you to CC. And that's after you get the permit to own a pistol.

I would never suggest you do anything illegal. That being said I carried across the US in my truck for decades. If you are driving a normal vehicle, no xmas tree air fresheners on the mirror, no grateful dead or NRA stickers, statistically the odds are extremely small BUT if by chance you have an accident or get stopped you're screwed.
