Default 😎 After nearly 50 years, a coal mine attraction in Scranton is ready to open

Volunteers in Scranton have spent more than a year restoring a model coal mine in Nay Aug Park.
SCRANTON, Pa. — fMembers of the Underground Miners cut the ceremonial firing line, officially reopening the Brooks Mine. The tourist mine in Scranton's Nay Aug Park hasn't had any visitors since the late 1970s.

That zoo was so awesome, in a Gary Larson sort of way.

Nay Aug park is great to visit, was there recently but the Brooks mine was not open as of then. Not too far into the park lots of parking and a short walk to the mine. Can't wait to get back. Also a must see is the Gorge!

Coal was never taken from the Brooks Mine. Rather, it was an educational attraction to show what an actual mine would look like.
So this was never any coal? How big is the tunnel?

I forget the name of it but there is/was another mine tour up there that is in an actual former coal mine. You ride down and back in a tram on a cable then walk around and get to see the mine. Does Lackawanna sound right?

Yes. It's off of Keyser Avenue on the north west area of the city.

I*ve done the Pioneer Mine tunnel when visiting Knoebels. Side benefit is it is right by Centralia if you want to check that area out.
