Because that's the way their union likes it. You see, their pension payments upon retirement are the average of their last 3 years pay, which includes OT. All the guys nearing retirement get lots of OT to pad their pension payments. Then they wonder why PA is in a pension crisis.

C'mon, somebody has to watch over high school activities and sports traffic etc. There's lots of crazies out there. Got no problem with PD doing that kind of stuff for some OT. As far as speed traps and quotas goes, I don't think it's realistic these days in suberbia.

I hear you. But those initiatives are usually federally funded through safety grants. Run the trap or lose the money. I don*t like quantity over quality, but I doubt any Chief or mayor will turn down Fed money.

Are you drunk? Most departments are so short right now, an officer could work 24 hours around the clock to cover shifts. It has not nothing to do with professionals, discretion or independence. At this point, just asses in a patrol car seat.

Also, many private companies hire police OT. From Wawas, road construction, festival security, to Phillies games.

There use to be more visible police driving in traffic and in unmarked cars to stop it deter bad driving behavior....that enforcement has slowed down...and now everyone can input the police position via the Waze app.....

My neighbors have lost at least 10 cars in the past few years due to people speeding around a blind curve, losing control, over correcting and then slamming into parked cars opposite the side of me We have complained about it, they do nothing. But they did spend time running trap on a side street in a nearby neighborhood of $million homes. One guy lost 4 trucks in the span of 2 years, 2 of them were 2 weeks apart.

Two weeks ago, my daughter and I thought we were going to see another one, 26' Penske truck came around the curve, oversteered and was almost into the parked cars. Turned away at the last second and almost oversteered again into the other lane. Would have sucked because he probably would have hit us as we were waiting to back into the driveway

Sounds like you need speed bumps, not cops.

I know the PSP pension works that way. And the troopers that pad their pay, usually work the turnpike, which is short handed And since it is cheaper to pay OT, than hire a new trooper, I doubt the troopers working OT on the road are causing PAs pension crisis. As far as I know their OT gets taxed for pension purposes.

Philadelphia doesn*t work this way. I am not sure about any other departments in PA. If anything pensions and benefits have been reduced. Until lately.

From my experience, douches on bikes are super easy to deal with if you're in a cage. I'm not slamming on the brakes to avoid him, if he hits me, he loses. I might stop depending on how much damage to my truck.

Not sure what any of that has to do with my post.
