I would never trade my Colt Series 70 Gold Cup for a Kimber. The first Gold Cups did have a lighter slide and springs for target loads. The Series 70 was a standard weight slide and recoil spring setup....yes if you're shooting factory 230 Ball you could put a heavier recoil spring in but not really needed, Mike.

Agreed. I have a Gold Cup that has in excess of 70,000 rounds through it. It runs just fine.
Interestingly....here is a story about an odd incident that a friend of mine had some years ago concerning Kimbers. Note that this story is more about attitudes toward Kimbers than the guns themselves.
I shot in a Bullseye league with this friend. He was a competent shooter....never had a problem with the Kimber. Before he started reloading, he had to buy ammo. He called an outfit in Maryland that a number of other fellows use. During his conversation with the owner, the friend mentioned that he was using a Kimber 1911. The conversation stopped right there...the ammo guy refused to sell any ammo to my friend because it was for a Kimber.
Very weird story, I know, but true.
