Smaller coon hunting dogs?
Back in high school I used to have a treeing walker that was a great coon dog. I had a lot of good nights hunting with her.
I now have a chocolate lab, he's a house dog. I thought I'd get to hunt pheasant and such with him, but he's been incurably gun-shy ever since we got him as a pup. He's over 8 years old now.
When he passes, we are debating on whether to get another dog at all, and if we do we don't want a bigger dog again since our dogs spend a lot of the time indoors. Are there any breeds of dogs that do a good job running coon but aren't as big as the typical coon hounds?

Re: Smaller coon hunting dogs?
I would expect that a Beagle or Basset hound could be trained to run coons. In the south Beagles are used to run deer. I think they'll trail anything they are taught to.
