    Default AR15 in 7.62x39?

Just wondering how this round performs in terms of accuracy and reliability in a standard AR15 platform (non-piston upper). Debating whether-or-not to assemble one, or just buy a cheap AK. Probably would go with the Del-Ton or J&T Kit.

I've got a 7.62x39 20" free float upper from Model 1, mounted on a Del Ton Lower with a RRA 2-stage NM trigger. I'm very pleased with the performance of this round out of an AR platform. Even with the steel cased Eastern ammo it has no problem doing 2 to 2.5" groups at 100 yds.

The folks over at ar15.com (Variants section) have posted even more impressive performance info, especially in the hunting for large hogs.

A word of caution... the standard 7.62x39 Bolt & Firing Pin in some brands can cause problems in firing some of the steel cased stuff, particularly Wolf. Some say its because of harder primers, others say its because the primers are seated deeper. In either case, several remedies exist for this problem. Some modify the firing pin to protrude more, while others say a heavier hammer spring does the trick. I chose the third option of buying an Enhanced 7.62x39 Bolt from MGI. Apparently, they designed the bolt and pin after consulting with Wolf Ammo. In any case, with their bolt, my AR will eat anything I put in it. Since the carrier and charging handle are the same as the standard ARs, I would get them and the MGi bolt separately, especially if you order from Model 1 Sales.

Having both, I vote buy the AK if you want to shoot 7.62.
