So is it OK to shoot then?

Yes, however it cannot be hollowpoints. You will be prosecuted post mortem.

Please visit the web site www.gunskills.com We are approved by the NJ state police to re-qualify the retired police officers. I am sure that this is the course of fire that they are asking for. We teach in the Easton area.

For the NJ retired LEO's to re-qualify, is it just getting a certain score on the targets or does it cover stuff like safety, laws, exc.?

    The good news:
I had a license to carry in NJ for years and I wasn't a LEO.

    The bad news:
I had a hard time obtaining it (40 years ago) and it became harder and harder to keep it even though my father was in politics, I knew Dick Hughes (Gov. and then CJ of NJ Supreme court) AND I was an instructor and class3 FFL. holder.
I won't say it's impossible, but you should plan on a LONG and frustrating road.
    I wish you luck

Good luck. One additional reason to try is that if you carry there anyway without a permit as I have done, if you are prosecuted, you can try an affirmative defense at trial and show you did everything you could to legally carry and only did so illegally when you had no other options.

You do have a point. In your scenario, you would be able to get a public defendant who might be able to push a civil rights case on the state's dime,if they were ambitious enough. Most probably though, they'd plea it down to get you into a "diversionary program," as long as you were a clean citizen otherwise.

I consulted a lawyer, and he pretty much said he didn't want to take thousands of dollars from me just to end up not getting the permit anyways.
