Default PA Boy Accidentally Shot Playing With Gun

Fairchance Boy Accidentally Shot Playing With Gun

    Sunday, November 16, 2008
FAIRCHANCE, Pa. -- A Fayette County boy was accidentally shot Saturday when his mother let him play with a gun.

Police said the 10-year-old wanted to show the gun to a friend. His mother took the weapon from a locked cabinet and gave it to him.

Shortly afterward, the woman realized the gun might be loaded and she attempted to alert her son.

In doing so, police said she grabbed him in a way that caused him to accidentally fire the gun, hitting him in the thigh.

The boy was taken to Uniontown Hospital where he was treated and released.

Charges are pending against the mother.

This is why firearms safety should be a mandatory class in public school, with a refresher every year up to high school graduation.
Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

Whether its taught in school or not is kinda moot, the parent failed to abide by rule #1 - to check it's load status.

Exactly! Every single time you pick up a gun, it needs to be checked. Every time you hand it to someone you check it, than make sure the person you hand it to checks it! It may be redundant, but its better than being dead because of becoming complacent. This kid was lucky, and the mom just dumb. IMO

The stupidity of some people always amazes me. I would only allow my boys to look over my guns while in my presence.

This upsets me as much as it amazes me.

I cringe everytime I hear about someone being shot, because it gives the anti's ammo for their fight.

Lately it seems like their has been more and more on the news.

Me too... Except when its an anti that dies, then I figure its just desserts and one less to cause us problems.

Evidently no one ever taught the mother the rules of safe gun handling. Like; treat EVERY gun as if it is loaded, or check to make sure every weapon is unloaded each time you handle it. Serious case of the delta alpha there.
