    Question Advice on a Kel-Tec

My son-in-law recently won a shotgun at a bash and he wants to trade it in on a handgun. The shop owner told him, I believe, the shotgun is in the 300-350 range. He suggested a Kel-tec. Any opinions or advice on this brand or any suggestions on another? He's willing to spend some on an upgrade, but he can't afford too much.

first option: keep the shotgun. there's nothing a handgun can do that shotgun can't, but louder. what make and model is the shottie, anyway?

second option: most Keltecs go for less than what the shop owner is asking. for $300-350, he can get a Taurus or a S&W, used or new.

i think the shop owner is trying to get over on your in-law by trying to trade his shotgun for a Keltec. not to take away from Keltec; they're great guns, but it's not a fair trade, IMO.

Put it up on the firearms as WTT (want to trade) and see what offers you get.

I paid $240 for my Kel Tec P3AT brand new. It failed to totally extract twice in the first 50 rounds but has been totally reliable since then. I think if I were buying now I would get the Ruger knockoff because it has a slide catch.
The older I get, the better I used to be.

I personally wouldn't trade the shotgun for a Kel-Tec. The shotgun is probably worth more than the Kel-Tec. I am a KT supporter, but there are more friendly to shoot options out there.

His best option would be to sell the shotgun outright, for what it is actually worth. Not just what the dealer wants to give, remember they have to make a profit on the resale so they will offer low. Then buy a pistol that fits his hands.

i agree with the other replies here. I shoot and support kel-tec (for the most part) but for the 300-350 range you might be up one tier as far as trade in value... but personally i'd keep the shotty.

...if you were to trade for sure: throw in an extra $50 and get a used glock or a S&W.

I agree with the others. I got a slightly used KT .380 for 200 so 3 - 350 sounds real high. What does he want for the gun. If he wants home protection you can't beat the shotgun, concealed carry a KT is great just get some cash back or rounds etc.. If he's looking for a nice home defense / range handgun KT is not it (imho). He should trade for a nice used piece or put the money towards a trade in Glock or 1911.

I just sold my KelTec P11 for reasons that it misfires regularly causing a second pul on the trigger. With this said its not good for persoanal defense one misfire and you're dead
