Default How to get to North Carolina from Pa (with my gun)

I live in Bucks Pa, spend a lot of time in NC. I can carry in Pa, Va, and NC. Can I open carry in a car in De or Md? Do I just have to have it unloaded and inaccessible when in De and Md? Or should I just head for the West Virginia border to get out of Pa.

you could get a utah permit which would cover you in DE.

but there is no way to deal with MD other than follow the federal FOPA procedure (unloaded, locked in trunk or whatever the exact requirements are).

yes, you could go through WV instead...though i gotta thing that is pretty far out of the way from bucks county.

Yes WV is a bad option, it will go locked in the trunk first

In Delaware you can have a loaded gun as long as it's in plain site, like the dashboard or passenger seat. Delaware also accepts a Utah or Florida (and possibly others but not Pa) permit so you'd be good with one of those.

In Maryland, I'm not sure but it's an anti-gun state, check out this website for interstate travel & guns:

    http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/Federal/Read.aspx?id=59

    From that site this:

MARYLAND--The unlicensed transportation of handguns in vehicles is prohibited, except for a variety of lawful purposes, including target shooting. A handgun must be transported unloaded and in an enclosed case or holster with a strap.
    Good Luck,
    Bill

If you take 81 out of PA through MD, you're only in MD for about 10 miles, then it's WV which we have reciprocity with and then Virginia. There is even a shorter hop further west, but that at least minimizes your exposure... If you use Delaware you've got WAY more MD to go through...

I have to agree with The Drew here, I have family in Northern VA and in NC, I usually take I-81 to head south. Only in MD for about 10 or 11 miles and then its VA and NC. It may be a little out of the way, (depending on what part of NC you are heading too), but my trips are to Manassas, VA and near Greensboro, NC. Even if you have to go to the coast, MD isn't that big, just unload and lock in the truck, once through, reload.

Maryland is very anti gun. So make sure gun and ammo locked in separate whatever. Also be sure to unload mags. No NRA stickers or other gun related stuff visible. Obey all traffic laws and do not stop, as you want it clear you are traveling through not visiting the Peoples Republic of Maryland.
