Default Using a Saiga 12 gauge to hunt in PA..

I just picked one of these up and would love to use it for groundhogs and or small game...

I know you can use a semi-auto shotgun. Are these considered legal to use? The mag is 5 rounds and I know you can limit to under 5 with a mod I saw.

    Any insight would be great!

    Thanks!

They would be legal if you can cap the capacity to 2+1 shells. ...2 in mag, 1 in chamber. Being how some PAGC Officers can be overzealous, I'd make sure you got a 2 shot mag, or made sure a modded 5 shot was kinda permanent so not to raise an eyebrow or put an inkpen to a yellow tablet.

Not legal for deer, elk and I think bear though. The rest of the critters it'd be legal with that you could use semi-auto shotties with.

I don't see why not, as long as you plug the mag so it follows the letter of the law. I ran into a guy pheasant hunting with one of those short barreled Mossberg tactical guns with the full length magazine. I asked him if he's ever been hassled with that gun, and said yes, but then went on to say that he plugged the gun with two pencils to make it legal and when shown to the game officers they leave him alone because he's abiding by the law and plugging his gun to the 3 shell capacity.

That should be legal. I'd double check what you're allowed to use autoloading for.

You can pretty much limit them however you can. I mean my 870 Express Mag came with a plastic insert I had to put in the end of the magazine to get the correct capacity.

Could be done, you'll need the 2rnd mag though. There are two styles, the old and the new. The new one looks similar to a 5rnd mag (suspect it's just a 5rnd body that is plugged)
Gilbert's guns used to have them in stock, but I don't see them on their webpage

The old style is the one I have, they are dang near impossible to find and be willing to shell out more than what an AGP 10 round stick costs

I've taken one out for turkey before, just because... I made a small wood block that sits inside of the spring and blocks it to 2 round capacity. Just round off the edges really well so it doesn't get caught up in the spring.

I never ran into Johnny Law with it though (I almost never do), but it is plugged just the same as a tube style shotgun mag is blocked with the wooden rod.

I managed to block the mag to 3 rounds and it work fine.

I used spent 30-06 shells and put 3 of at the bottom of the mag between the spring.

The mag will now only accept 3 rounds from the factory 5. Since you can't insert a saiga mag without the bolt held back (well, you can actually, just VERY hard), this qualifies as the 1 in chamber, 2 in mag rule for PA.

    It works pretty good actually.

Squirrel onslaught will begin this saturday.

(if I am wrong, I can block the mag down to 2 as well...just add another 30-06 spent shell)
