    Default AR15 So many option!?

    Hi all!

I'm going to order one! Now, if only I could decide which options are a must. I've decided on a RockRiver with a lightweight barrel but I'm not sure about the sight/upper confiqurations. I'm sure, at some point, I will want to mount a scope so what's the best option? Flip-up sights or just a detachable carry handle? What's your experiences?

    Thanks ahead~ Ned

Some people like to put way too many accessories on their ARs.

I like to keep things to a minimum so I like the Eotech and Light for ARs. That's all I really need.

    Eotech

    Light

    Sling

I'm going through the same thing and I'm even getting help!. Since I've only fired some AR's once before and I'm going to be building one. I really don't have a clue of what to look for. I can't help but think that by the time I'm done, I'll have 3.4 rifles. lol.

An EOtech or C-More sight flat top reciever flip up sights for back up or co-witness and a flashlight mounted are all you need.

I think that jmateer has the right basic idea here, keep it simple. I just bought a new upper last weekend, its a flat top CAR with standard front and a flip up rear sight. The only thing that I'm going to add is an eotech, either 512 or 552. Remember the fewer things that you add the fewer things that can go wrong.

    Amen.

For long range, just go with a low power variable. I like to free float my rifles since most AR's are capable of sub MOA with good loads. Might as well get the accuracy.

True, but it doesn't have to be your first AR. That is what the second and third builds are for.

    Get a flat top upper.

You'll quickly appreciate the LW barrel. Good choice.

Forget the detachable carry handle and spend the money on a good folding BUIS. I recommend Troy Industries.

Do get a conventional FSB. Fold down front sights, except on a precision rifle, are superfluous and it's a struggle to get them deployed if you run them "folded".

Do not buy an upper with a muzzle brake. Get one with a FH.

Quad rail forends provide the most flexibility. However, they are overkill for civilian use. The advantage they bring to the table, even if you limit accessories to a light and an optic, is that you can freely reconfigure your rifle until you find what suits you the best. It is in that context that I recommend them.

However, they don't necessarily have to be free floated. Once you decide on how you want your rifle set up, zero and leave it alone. Non free float forends are considerably cheaper than free floats.

If I were King I would outlaw rifle AR15 barrels with rates of twist slower than 1:7.
