Single stage or progressive?
Im going to be loading .223 and 9mm, is something like the lee pro 1000 decent enough to pump out 9mm, and if I want to go slower do something like .223?
Thinking of ordering from cabelas and then driving down to pick it up.
thoughts?

Re: Single stage or progressive?
Frankly I would pick the turret over the 1000. it's more versatile.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
I agree.
I have a Lee Pro 1000 for 44mag/45LC. Sync takes awhile to setup, and it really sucks if you even remotely come close to short stroking a cycle.
For 9mm, I'd probably try it.. But for the 233, I'd be seriously hesitant to use a Pro 1000..
As cheap as they are, I'd get a Pro 1000 for the 9mm to spit out lots of bulk pop-can ammo.. And a turret for the rifle ammo and more precise loading for handguns.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
Yep, that's it. I have one, and it's great. You only load one at a time, so it's not as fast as a progressive, but all 3 dies are in place, so you don't have to change over. with the auto index, you produce a loaded round in 3 strokes.
if you want, you can still use it like a single stage press for ultra precision loads.
also, you can get extra turrets, so once you have your dies set up, you don't have to thread them in and out to change them.

edit - and if you don't have one, get a reloading manual and read it before you start. Lee's Modern Reloading has a lot of good information.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
Get a Loadmaster and you are covered on just about any cal up to .50BMG.
Its about twice as much as a Pro1000, but you get more capability.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
it is a trade off between speed and accuracy. a progressive is fast but not as accurate and a single is slowest but most accurate, a turret falls in between. i use my load master for 9mm and 38 spl primarily, with the occasional 7.62 x 39. i have loaded 308 and 22-250 on it, it works well enough for that but falls short on accuracy (mostly because of powder metering). so for my 1 hole group stuff i like the single stage and a balance scale. i do not have any experance myself on a turret press however, my assumption would be that the quality of sizing and oal would be the same as on a single, but you would still have problems with the powder charge for extreme accuracy applications.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
I have been loading with the Lee 3 hole press for years.
If they had had the 4 hole then I would have gotten it.
After looking at the picture of items that come with the Classic press kit, if that is what you are leaning to, I would consider this:
The Lee 3 or 4 hole turret press,
The Lee perfect powder measure instead of the one shown, an electronic powder scale, instead of the magnetic one shown, and an auto prime (hand held) and the shell holders instead of the Auto prime II shown.
The Lee perfect powder measure is the same price and could be substituted I'm sure, and it can be mounted seperately on the bench, or on the Charging die (which comes with pistol dies) if you want it there.
You can leave in the index rod that changes the dies automatically, or remove it so you can move the die you need into place.
Your gonna want an electronic scale later, so, get one now.
I have found the turret press to be just as fast as I want to be, and it is so quick to change from one cartridge to another once your dies are set.

Re: Single stage or progressive?
Please back up your statement that a single stage produces 'more accurate' ammo.
Accuracy is the sum total of gun, shooter, cartridge and a few other things I probably never considered. My Loadmaster will make the any cartridge to the exact specs I set it up to. My classic cast press will reform brass much easier, but as for making a better cartridge... I don't see how. (ps its not a flex issue either)
