Re: Rethinking home defense options
I didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if it's been covered. 1) While a particular round might not penetrate armor, the shock of the hit should still have a pretty good effect. 2) Taking a hip out will ensure that the perp will fall over, unlike being shot in the abdomen where they can still be 'alive' for a while and come at you.

Racking a pump gun won't neutralize the threat?
But seriously (as previously stated), just like real estate: location, location, location is primary.

you have 2-5 seconds to grab your firearm in a home invasion unless it is at night and you are in the upstairs of a 2 story home.
there are many kits to strengthen your door jams that make it considerably more difficult to kick in the door and slow them down which is the most common form of entry.
unless you live without nearby neighbors using an AK or AR could allow penetration of a neighbors home.
a short 12gauge is a much safer option
9 or 10 years ago in saylorsburg I had a friend and his son and dog murdered by a neighbor high on meth who heard voices in his head who walked through his front door while they were watching tv on an afternoon. the mother barely escaped out the back door. the whole incident only took about 15 seconds
I never leave my door unlocked anymore and almost always have a gun within reachEcclesiastes 10:2 ...........

Re: Rethinking home defense options
You might be surprised. I used to work with a black guy from Philthytown and he told me more than once that the hoodlums downtown know that the suburbanites don't lock their shit. A few years ago an 85 year old woman living in Douglassville got killed in her own house in the middle of the day. Ever since then, I keep my doors locked with the hopes that it'll give me enough time to grab a gun before they're inside.

Re: Rethinking home defense options
Each night we set up a home alone style set of traps and embarrassments. If the thug makes it through all that they are going to be catching plenty of rounds.

Re: Rethinking home defense options
That you know of.. So much shit goes down around the best places that people live and have NO clue as to what really happens. Devereux is a good example, inner city kids get chucked in a van and taken to Chester county to do their (time) rehab. They escape and hush hush, unless they get caught. Anyone been to or seen the high security holding facility in Morgantown where the best of shitheads get locked up? Its couple miles from lowes.
As Ray has brought up good points, shit happens and some dont think about it till its to late.
