    Default un-confuse me

I was looking at the stoeger cougar 8000. It says it's a 9 mm pistol, but it is actually 9x21. Does that mean a 9 mm cartridge doesn't work in this gun ? Joe

Search 9x21, there is plenty of info on it. Apparently, you can shoot 9x19 out of it. It looks interesting.

I see why you are. Good question. So much mixed info.
But yea don't put a x19 in a x21. Also 9x21 is kind of hard to find vs x19.

Rimless headspace on the mouth of the case. The only way a 9x19 will properly fire is if it is caught between the breech face and extractor as it loads from mag into chamber, and that isn't a reliable effort. The extractor then acts to headspace(not all that well).

9x21 is a "civilian cartridge" for some countries that prohibit civilian possession of "military cartridges/guns".

I highly recommend that you do not try the 9x19 in a 9x21 chamber. It isn't like .38spl in a .357mag, those headspace on the rim.

    Either:
    1. Buy the gun and wait til you can get 9x21 ammo(on the market or roll your own).
    2. Buy the gun and change the barrel.
    3. Buy the gun and not shoot it.
    4. Not buy the gun.

PS: Not to mention that you could possibly damage the throat of the 9x21 chamber when a 9x19 bullet slams into it upon firing. Which then could interfere with proper chambering of 9x21 at a later date.

There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
