    Default Rossi Model 62

I just acquired a Rossi Model 62 (carbine length). Once the action is cycled, the pump locks (you can't cycle the action at again) until the hammer is comepletely down on the firing pin. I've only tried this with an empty gun.

Is this normal? If so, it'll make unloading the little gun a little hairy during small game season....

There should be an action release button somewhere on the gun like a pump shotgun. It is probably near or around the trigger guard somewhere. I don't know that model enough to tell you exactly where it is. Perhaps another member does. If not, look in the manual or if you don't have one, check in with a local shop.

That is the design of the rifle. To unload; open action, remove magazine tube, empty rounds through the front of the magazine, replace tube, close action, let hammer down slowly, open action and check for any live rounds. Check the action several times to make sure no live rounds are in the rifle.

yeah, I have one of these too and that's normal, you could alternatively lightly press on where the hammer drops and it will release the action.

My firing pin is broken though....trying hard to find a replacement.

There is nothing wrong with your rossi model 62, I owned one for years(wish I still did), when you load the gun and your'e done shooting pull the feed tube out and empty the live rounds in your hand, then replace fill tube and then slide the pump back to eject the chambered round. After that close the action again, let the hammer down all the way slowly and then pull the action back again to make sure ther are no rounds left. Do this several times to be sure its totally empty. They're a great gun!!
