ID help requested
This is going to show up in a couple hours...what is it? Action looks like Enfield, stock looks like Weatherby, no mag like an Enfield, and the markings don't get me any answers. "Franken Gun"...? Thanks. Sorry pics suck, it's all I have to work with for now...

Re: ID help requested
You're correct, that's a Lee Enfield that's been sporterized. There's no mag because someone has installed a floor plate which is definitely an option with one of these.
A lot of WWI and WWII battle rifles got this treatment over the years and depending on who did it, some better than others.
I hope this helps,

Re: ID help requested
303 re-barreled Enfield is my closest guess ,Franken gun it appears your right on . I also would make sure of caliber, these guns were in barrels in the 1960s at $ 15 a pop along with jungle carbine which sad to say sold mine years ago .

Re: ID help requested
Thanks for the input. It should be here shortly...I have a few Enfields that I picked up in the 80s and 90s for $79 and all the cosmoline you could choke on. Some of my favorite rifles, both in 303 and 308...with bayonetts, of course.

Re: ID help requested
Jungle carbines have a problem with a wandering zero and are not that accurate so this would not be a target rifle. Not sure if a deer would notice though.

Re: ID help requested
Yup. The markings clearly say No. 5 Enfield so that rifle started as a Jungle Carbine made in April 1945. Style of work says 1960s-70s type conversion to sporter. What caliber is it in currently? The work looks nicely done. Too bad really. Unmolested No. 5s are sought after these days but then for a long time they were just like all the thousands of other surplus milsup guns and just a source of conversion to deer rifles.

Stamped 303 Birtish, 12.5 tons (per inch) tossed 3 rounds thu it. Liking it, but kicks hard for a guy at 125 pounds. Stock is
Weatherby for certain.
Neat new deer gun. Being a "Franken Gun", any idea on value? I don't want tp screw the guy. I want to offer fair value for it.Small hand made batches of beef jerky...Mountain Meats and More on Face Book

Re: ID help requested
Those Jungle carbines are famous or their kick... My first experience with one was when I was 12ish (and also around the 125 pound mark coincidentally) and it almost set me on my ass!
Value is so hard to evaluate these days. Pre coivid, sportorized milsurps usually could be had fairly cheap, like $200 to $300 or so, depending on the underlying gun, and how bubba'ed they were.Illegitimus non carborundum est
