Angry ALLEGNENY COUNTY CCW PERMIT RENEWAL INFO

FOR YOUR INFO ONLY. I WENT THIS MORNING TO THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY COURTHOUSE FOR A PERMIT RENEWAL. I AM 55 AND HAVE HAD A PERMIT SINCE I WAS 21. YOU MUST NOW PRESENT A CURRENT DRIVERS LICENSE, YOUR OLD PERMIT, THEN FILL OUT A 41 ITEM FORM. YOU NEED "TWO " SEPERATE NAMES, ADDRESSES, AND PHONE NUMBERS, OF NON RELATIVES. YOU ALSO FILL OUT A YELLOW CARD WITH YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS, THEY TAKE YOUR PHOTO, THEN TELL YOU YOU WILL RECEIVE THIS CARD IN THE MAIL IN THREE WEEKS. YOU THEN MUST GO BACK IF APPROVED, AND SHOW YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE, AND PAY $25.00 CASH.

That's the process outlined on the Sheriff's website.

I just got mine in December and went through the same process. I would have hoped a renewal wouldn't require all the references and whatnot but from my understanding, it's the same process as the original application.

FYI, They don't check the references or anything like that. At least they didn't check mine.

the new sheriff is an anti-gun moron.

defazio may have been crooked, but at least he was on the money when it came to gun rights.

Got my LTCF this past Dec.
I was in and out of the Greensburg Court house less than 15 mins.
The young woman taking the photos that day was super good looking.

    I'm getting that feeling too.

In 2005 when my wife and I went to renew, I don't recall needing references again for the renewal.(I may be wrong, I have trouble remembering what I was wearing yesterday!)
We filled out the forms, had our photos taken and left with our new cards.

The only thing I really remember was that the guy behind the counter asked if I had my handgun on me and I said "no, I know that my permit is expired and needed to be renewed." He wasn't snotty or anything, he probably would have pointed out that I was not legally carrying when I came in if I had answered "yes." (I think our permits had been expired for a week before we could schedule a time to go downtown.)

Also, I think he said it can be renewed "X" many days before it expires, but I can't recall for sure.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

they told me this morning, 60 days before you expire and 90 days after your expiration date. grace period. the lady that took my info was very nice, and said the reason for the change was (home land security) but we all know it is the new sheriff.

Yes she is...as I recall, great smile, great everything. If I worked in the courthouse, I would have to "loose" my LTCF about once a week.

    FYI...

PA UFA says you are good to go if your permit has expired within 6 months and you would not be otherwise ineligible for a renewal.

    PA UFA Section 6101.b.12:

    (b) Exceptions.-The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to:

    ...

    (12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and that said license expired within six months prior to the date of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for renewal of the license.
this is good to know in case the sheriff takes forever in issuing your renewal permit.
