    Default AR question, opinions wanted

    All,

Long time, no post...good to see this forum is still as great as the last time I was here!

Ok, I want an AR-15, for the obvious reasons.

I had my eyes on a Stag Model 2, but they are all now sold out. The shop I was at still had a Stag Model 4, and I put a deposit down on it.

My question is, if I wanted to put a 16" barrel and collapsible stock on that in the future, how much would something like that run?

I do like the 20" version, but ultimately, I think I want a 16". I don't really know why though.

Should I just buy the model 4, or get a lower and a parts kit?

If I get the parts kit, how important are things like a chrome-lined bore?

    Thanks guys!!!

the chrome lined bore depends on the purpose of the gun... if you want a few more shots out of it without cleaning, at the cost of accuracy, it is good. What's your goal for the rifle?

I don't really have a "goal" for it, other than enjoyment.

    I don't compete.

Just to shoot, enjoy, and if that SHTF day ever comes, defend myself with it.

Sounds like chrome lined is up your alley then.

Either get yourself a nice kit or pick up a RRA/STAG/Colt and have a blast!

Yeah, I was same as you 6mos ago. I couldn't wait, so instead of being smart, I bought mine all together at once. Mine cost $850. I could have built it for cpl hundred cheaper. Aside from the trigger assembly(which I'm not sure of) everything else is simple to assemble. If I were you, I would buy a good multi-caliber lower(Stag,DPMS,L.A.R.[like mine, which is a Grizzly]), a good trigger assembly, then the rest of what you want. Mine is a DPMS upper, 16" chrome-moly barrel(for accuracy[I clean all my weapons after every trip anyway...don't need chrome-lined]), flip-up rear sight, and multi-position stock. I added finger-molded grip and a vertical foregrip. I also just got a good brass-catcher(which is important if you shoot brass not steel cases).
