1911 Grip Problem
I recently picked up a new Sig 1911, and just received new grips to put on it. Pretty simple procedure, right? Of course not... I go to remove the top screw on the left side grip, and the entire thread mount comes out too. So the screw is still threaded inside of the grip. Any ideas on how to get this separated without destroying the threads?

Re: 1911 Grip Problem
You should be able to get the screw out of the bushing (thread mount) by using a pair of pliers and a rag to cushion the threads on the bushing.

Re: 1911 Grip Problem
Thanks! That indirectly worked somehow. I tried it, and it did still mess the threads up a bit so I screwed the bushing back into the grip to make sure it wasn't FUBAR'd and somehow that kept the bushing in place when I went to take the screw back out. I'll take it as a win.

Re: 1911 Grip Problem
Remove the bushing and grip screw as one unit.
Degrease the bushing threads.
Place a drop of red Loctite on the threaded bushing hole in the frame.
Carefully screw the bushing/grip screw into the frame.
Remove any excess Loctite from the inside of the frame.
Allow the Loctite 24 hours to set up.
Remove the grip screw.
ETA - If you decide to change out the bushings later on for slim line use this: https://www.amazon.com/Challis-Bushi.../dp/B07BVJ1Y5L
You'll need both sizes.Last edited by ArmyVet; December 9th, 2020 at 04:30 PM.

Re: 1911 Grip Problem
Kinda suggests the manufacturer may have applied a thread locker and it inadvertently bled into the hole in the grip.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
