Re: Preferred bullet weight for 1:9 twist in .223?
I can get sub moa from all my non-match guns with reloads. None are chrome lined. Shooting 1moa with chrome and bulk ammo is quite good.
If you want to try for better, get some Black Hills ammo in the 62-69gr range or some good reloads (69gr SMK over Varget).

Re: Preferred bullet weight for 1:9 twist in .223?
I will assume that Dave has figured out the load he wants, and thankfully has moved to Open so he isn't killing me anymore.
I use 55 gr bullets over 748. Reasoning is that with 55 gr varmint bullets I can get accurate and flat shooting ammo for long stages; and then use inexpensive FMJ for practice and the short quick stages. This seems to work for me and I haven't felt my ammo has let me down (unlike my shooting which often does).
I load 55 gr bullets over 26.5 gr of 748. I use CCI primers in all loads and mixed brass in the FMJ loads but switch to LC for the "good stuff". These loads are about 1.5 MOA+ for the FMJ and right at 1 MOA for the good stuff, both more than adequate for 3-gun. For real accuracy I use 69 HPBT over Varget, well under 1 MOA out of my Savage.
Dave, that FNH you sold me is a treat.

Re: Preferred bullet weight for 1:9 twist in .223?
Thanks for all the info guys, just some questions on the reload lingo... as, again, I am researching to get started but have yet to jump in.
The bolded sections are what I'm not sure on.... I'm assuming these have to do with powders and grain weights?HEY Subscribe to my YouTube Channel! < AND > My blog!

Yes, those (Varget and 748) are powders and partial reload recipes. "SMK" is the Sierra Match King.....it's a quality bullet.
Sorry. We shouldn't use so much jargon.
