    Default PA Dept. of State - "What NOT to Bring: Weapons or firearms"

    If you go the the PA Dept. of State's VotesPA Website, included in the list of things not to bring to the polls (after you enter your address) are firearms:

    What NOT to Bring:

    * Weapons or firearms

    I'm sending a letter to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, and will post any replies received in this thread.

    I cant find it either.
    However, I did find this:

    "If you do not have a photo ID, you can use a non-photo identification that includes your name and address. Approved forms of non-photo identification include:

    Confirmation issued by the County Voter Registration Office
    Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
    Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
    Firearm permit
    Current utility bill
    Current bank statement
    Current paycheck
    Government check"

    Bold is mine.
    "The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])
    I have my rifle. Do you?

    I wanted to check that my polling place hasn't moved, so I used their Election Day Assistant function. At the bottom of the page, you'll find the no firearms statement. Sorry for the poor link in the first post.

    I found it and I find that statement to be very interesting. Please make sure you keep us all in the loop.

    I sent an email to the contact email address on the www.votespa.com website:

    Greetings,

    I have a question regarding what not to bring when voting on November 4th.

    I visited your website www.votespa.com and I wanted to make sure I was going to the correct voting location. So I clicked on the link on the left "Where to vote" and entered my added information. I confirmed the location of my voting place, but at the bottom of the page, I see the following:

    What NOT to Bring:

    * Weapons or firearms
    * Alcohol or drugs

    I have a valid License to Carry a Firearm issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I typically carry a concealed firearm wherever I go for personal protection. Is there a law that I do not know about that prohibits me from carrying my firearm to my polling place in Pennsylvania? The page referenced above was very blunt that it was an item not to be brought along. Will there be metal detectors there? And if so, will there be lock boxes for me to place my firearm in while I vote at the firehall?

    I would appreciate a response to my questions as I have never heard of a law prohibiting a citizen from carrying a firearm while voting.

    Thank you very much,

    Zef

    I'm a newly-appointed PA state constable, and I'll be "defending my polling place" this year as the law requires. The statutes I'm supposed to be enforcing are Title 25, chapter 14. Section XVIII lists infractions at the polls that have penalties.

    To sum up, there's nothing there about carrying firearms. If I should happen to see anyone show up OCing, I will shake his hand.

    Funnily, though, cops and soldiers aren't allowed at the polls in uniform, except cops responding to a call or where the polling station IS the police station. So if I see any cops in uniform, I'll have to arrest them.
