    Default PAFOA login???

I haven't been around in the past few days, so I was wondering why there is a mandatory login to just read threads? I really don't mind at all .... just curious as to why.

Mods, I did look for this topic before I posted and didn't see anything (although I was using my glass eye). Feel free to move or delete if needed.

I too found this rather clunky and odd.

Maybe they are still tweaking that big green banner on the page.

But I am sure that the staff has an explanation for it.

It's news to me. If thhat's how it is then it's a change for sure.

I will say there's been a huge spike in traffic lately, and that would be a good way to keep the server from exploding.

Waiting to hear from somebody that knows for sure.

If you are a member that put a check in the box that says "Remember Me" at the log in, and you never have to log in to access the site you would probably never notice.

Those that log in every visit would notice it immediately

True. Today was the first time I can honestly say that I noticed this though. I do have to "clean" my computer every time I shut it down, so I log in every time.

Never have been a "remember me" guy .... call me paranoid, but there are some pretty shady people in this house and I would be scared to think what would happen if they had even the most remote chance of being me ... even if only on PAFOA.

Like I said, just wondering ... I really don't mind signing in. It makes me feel like I belong.

OR.... It could be a "containment" issue as well. I'm sure "PAFOA" got posted enough times recently elsewhere to attract some attention. The anti folk who maraud the newspaper comments sections and post there are surely as internet/forum proficient as us...

Just some conspiracy theory food for thought...

My guess is that it is to temp prevent bots from viewing all thread contents, thus greatly reducing traffic...

But as gnbrotz pointed out, we have not been briefed so it is just a guess

Pretty sure doug mentioned doing it to try and help take a load off of the servers.
