    Default area SKS's

It looks like I'll be getting my nephew an SKS for Christmas. I can think of Brown's in Rochester and Guzic's in Ambridge that should have a selection of them. Anyone else carry a few? Anyone have SKS buying tips, as I know nothing about them. I assume that the Chineese are least desireable and Russian are hard to come by?

My cousin got a Yugo SKS from John Brown's in Rochester a few months ago. So far, it's been a good rifle, and he got a good deal on it. We've taken it out a few times, and it's fun to shoot.

There are some other SKS opinions in this thread:

Yugos are excellent. The more common 59/66 has the NATO grenade launcher and usually tritium night sights. Collectors seem to like the Mdl 59 better. I have both and I have to say the 59 is certainly cleaner without the launcher and sights. Albanians can be the cats meow if you get a good one. Accurate and they come with chrome lined barrels (still looking for mine). Russians are also great. Pretty much they're all good but I would tend to stay away from the Chicoms.

They come with a 10 round capacity, loaded with strippers or they can also be modified to take AK mags.

Karl -- how much of a deal is it to mod them for AK mags?

Sunday and Monday "doorbuster" at Duhnams has SKS's for $179.99. I think you only need 10-20% down to hold it at the sale price on layaway. Go get one tommarow, and if they are out then ask for a raincheck

FYI "modding" them to take AK mags is more than it's worth, or you don't understand what you're looking at there.

There were 2 SKS variants called the SKS-D and SKS-M that took AK mags from the factory, most folks assume these were mods but they weren't and came factory that way.

You can use the duckbill mags with them standard SKS' if you want.

Im actually thinking of trying to trade my shotgun for an SKS sometime soon, I wouldn't mind having one again.

    Kaos,

Were those SKS variants Russian-made only?
