ok so i wanna grab a lower for an ar-15. im short on cash so i figure i'll do this slowly.
what should i be looking into as to the lowers? i can always change calibers etc later right?...any brand/ website you guys would give high praise?

Dont skimp on the Lower, buy a quality one , if the lower is built right to specs everything will fall into place, its that easy , i've built many so Trust me on this.
Order one from Bushmaster or call up Larry at LRB arms www.lrb.com and have him ship you one of his , its a exact copy of a BM, i believe theyre both machined by CMT anyway.

The lower is the Heart of a AR 15.

I don't think CMT does the Bushy lowers, but I think the same company does the Double Star lowers........

CMT does Stag and RRA and they are top notch and half the cost.

I've worked on several Anvil lowers and they have been flawless.

Get the lower and barrel while you can. The lower, even if stripped is still considered to be the actual firearm. If I were you, I would check out Rock River Arms, DPMS, or CMMG. Bushmaster at times can have shoddy work. Stay as far away as you can from Colt. Not to say BM is a bad company, but there are certain times that their lowers are not quite mil spec. Their reciever pin holes, trigger pin holes, etc are sometimes a little sloppy.

Also get yourself the necessary tools. You will need a good vice, good pair of pliers, a brass punch set, I say brass because when you tap in the front sight post pins, (especially if they are tapered) you can flatten them with steel and they will not want to move. A upper vice block, lower vice block, and an AR-15 combination wrench. Once you then get the required tools, go to work.

Equally configured, they come in at the same price, +/- $2.00. However, I like the mid-length option of Del-Ton (no extra charge), which J&T doesn't offer.

I'm planning to get a DPMS lower from my local gun shop. They sell em for about 150$. Then build the rest with one of Del-Ton's rifle kits for about 460$.

This will be my first AR, so we'll see how it goes. Good luck to you, sir
