Bear in mind, the NRA says up front that if both the incumbent and the opponent have the same A rating, the NRA will endorse the incumbent.

In Murtha's case I see no opponent listed, maybe someone in the local area can gives us better information.

Brick is correct. NRA endorses the incumbent by policy if the incumbent has a good voting record on the gun issue, which Jason Altmire does.

My son is a US Marine and has just returned from Iraq. While he was there, Murtha accused Marines of being murderers, which put my son and all other Marines there at an extra level of risk.

NRA is a single issue organization. The only thing it takes to earn their endorsement is voting with them on the issues that they lobby on behalf of, which means guns. And despite Murtha's vileness on other issues, he's voted with NRA on their issues. That's not meant to be, and shouldn't be taken, as an endorsement of any of Murtha's other positions.

NRA is not a single issue lobby. They may rally around 2A, but are undoubtedly an extension of the GOP. I don't think anyone would argue this.
