1 mile targets and more
I just moved from the Pittsburgh area to be closer to this range in Kimbolton,Ohio.
They have steel targets and orange clays from 200 yards out to a mile. And new targets are being planned for 2,500 yards.
Hitting 12x12 inch steel plates at 1,000 yds is cool but not as cool as hitting an orange clay at 1,000 yds. And hitting targets at a mile is awesome.
Tom holds several competitions throughout the year.
Thunder Valley Precision offers Extreme Long Range Training.

The owner Tom Sarver has also built a 100 yard sight-in area and "the Pit". Steel is shot here from the 100 yard line and steel targets using handguns and carbines. The pit is also planned for enlargement. Classes are held in the pit for both handgun and carbine.

What’s on the other side of that 1mile berm? Like what would happen to a 50bmg round with bad dope lifting up and over that tree line and into the wild blue yonder.

Re: 1 mile targets and more
We advise everyone to use good dope and if you are not sure of your dope aim low and walk it in.
We advise people whio have never shot long range to start at 200 yards and slowly work your way out to 1,000 yds before attempting the 1,11 1,200 and 1 mile targets.
Rounds have gone over the top and hit trees, notice the dip in the tree line.
Currently there is only one piece of steel rated for 50 BMG and it is at the 600 yd berm. 50 BMG are limited because people in the past have shot up regular steel with them.
To answer your question that round will pass high over TR477 and land in a field."Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician" Col. Jeff Cooper (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

Re: 1 mile targets and more
I shoot out to 600 yards occasionally at another club in Ohio and would like to learn more about TVP.
The pavilion & steel layout look great.
Are the 12+ other shooting positions set up like a long range jungle walk?
On the open range days, can a non member show up, pay the $30 fee, head to the pavilion and start shooting steel or you do you have to reserve time in advance?
When is the best time for a noob to go?
Thanks.

That range looks very impressive, however I am more impressed that you moved, for shooting. That is dedication!

Re: 1 mile targets and more
All the other shooting positions are stationary and the targets are mostly of known distance. No jungle walks.
These other positions are not normally available during open range days because some are out on the hills in front of the main pavillion.
Here's a couple pics from the Head Hunter competition held this last week. It is the only comp shot as an individual. All other comps are shot as a team and we will pair you up with someone if you come alone.
You can see the shooters in the prone position. There are no benches at the other shooting positions but the grass is mowed and we can accommodate portable tables or tripods for disabled shooters if they supply them. We have transportation.

Open Range days start at 10:00am and some days all the benches get taken up quick, it is first come first serve. No reservations, no priorities.
People can also shoot prone from the concrete between the benches.
We have a safety brief before we go hot for all shooters. Best time to show up is early if the weather is nice. There are days when all the benches get taken by 9:30. It starts to clear out a little around 12:30 - 1:00 when people start running out of ammo.
