Default I've lived in or near Pittsburgh since 1999 and I have a question

Sometimes, usually when the weather gets colder, there is a certain smell in the air at night. It kind of smells like some evil mixture of car exhaust, Dr. Pepper and band-aids. I've always wondered what it is. Pollution settling near the ground or is something venting this into the air?

    Anyone know?

BTW, I just joined and since I couldn't let my first post not be gun related here are my toys.

Its probably what's left of the mill's around here junk settling lower in the cooler air.

Unless you are behind my car. In that case its methanol you smell. Don't ride my ass... it DOES ignite!

That would be the smell from the Coke Ovens on Neville Island and in Homestead.

I know that to some people it smells nasty, but it brings back good memories for me...

The reason you smell it more in the fall and winter is because air inversions form in the valleys where cold air is resting atop warm air, trapping the pollutants.

BTW, you gave out a more specific location in your post

Welcome aboard. I wonder if that smell might not be an indication of a zombie infestation. Wasn't it out near Pitt that they have the wierd case of the guy with no name attacking the LEO and then coming down with a mysterious illness? Look for the thread in the lounge.

In my area it is the stinky sewerish smell from the pulp mill in Spring Grove PA LOL

In Baltimore it used to be the smell of spices from McCormick's before they moved to Timonium. I also recall a fishy sort of old ship smell at the harbor, way back when I was little. Might have been a combo of fishy old ships and spices...LOL

And speaking of winter smells, how about " mouse nest in the engine"?
    LOL, I am a woman...
