Default Open carry *on* my car?

Okay, we all know open carry is legal in PA, but in a car the firearm is considered concealed. So...

Can I tape the gun to my rear view window for all to see, and still be legal?

Not inside the "container" of your car. I have no other unqualified advice to give... This is definitely a "new one".

No, carry in a vehicle is absolutely not "considered concealed".

Vehicle carry is specifically prohibited (unless you meet an exception such as LTCF) per 18Pa.C.S.§6106 in a vehicle.

So where the gun is or it's visibility to the outside is completely irrelevant.

Just get a license. With as cheap as they are, and as easy as they are to get - there's no excuse not to have one.

Not sure, I taught small arms for the NJNG and was teaching a course on the M2 50 cal, picked it up at the armory and set it up on the tripod in the back of my S10 with bungee cords to keep it from sliding around. Drove 80 miles to Ft Dix and got stopped twice by local cops. I was more surprised I did not get 'noticed' more I figure the drive thru at the McDonalds in Bordentown triggered the first stop and the car hop at the Stewarts root beer stand on the way home the second...

As was forcefully explained to me, having a firearm in your vehicle is not concealed. It is a separate entity.

To carry concealed on or about your person you need an LTCF (or one that Pennsylvania recognizes). To carry a firearm in your vehicle you need an LTCF (or a similar such license from any other state). To carry, openly or concealed, in a city of the first class you need an LTCF (or one that Pennsylvania recognizes). And to carry during a declared state of emergency you need an LTCF (or one that Pennsylvania recognizes).

Four separate reasons for an LTCF (or one that Pennsylvania recognizes), all four separate and distinct from each other.

What about on the outside of the rear window?

*Hypothetically speaking - I am NOT suggesting this be attempted.

Pa., I'm sure I know what you meant here... But, could you clarify it for the sake of newer members reading this for advice?

You do mean that carrying your firearm inside of a vehicle would require an LTCF, correct?
