Pellet air rifles for fun?
I hadn't purchased a decent pellet rifle for a while so I got a .22 Gamo swarm a month or so ago for the foxes smelling around the chicken coop - this guy is pretty fun! 972fps supposedly .. goes through 5/8" pine at 25'. Need to add some more plywood to the target so they don't keep going through.

Re: Pellet air rifles for fun?
I have a crosman valiant. It is okay. Nothing amazing. I think the box says it does 1100+fps. But i bought it chronographed from pyramyd and it was just over 800 fps. Those numbers are almost always based on light alloy pellets.
I find the nitro pistons kick more than an actual .22 rifle and are a load less accurate too. Supposedly they "break in", but I'm not seeing it yet. It also supposedly boasts some sort of silencing hardware, but it is still pretty loud. My .177 pump is a lot quieter (and more accurate) albeit a lot less powerful.
I wish they would actually make decent scopes and rails for pellet guns. I know they are hard on scopes because of how they recoil, but the junk they often kit them with isn't worth the effort to install.

Recently upgraded the scope for my Benjamin with a UTG 4×32 for about $45. It's very bright and I like the mildots and is specific for pellet rifles. Yes, the scopes that come with the rifles are crap.

Re: Pellet air rifles for fun?
pcp airguns can be a ton of fun without the "recoil"... ive had the maurader pistol (prod), gamo urban, and airforce talon - now they have electric pumping units but always did the 2stage pump... added benefit is that they can legally be quieted (at least in PA) since they are not firearms, so long as your "LDC" (lead dust collector) "can not be used on a firearm"... i have a german one that is whisper quiet at 800fps pushing a 14.7gr 22cal pellet... have also made them with springs as spacers with deadening material wrapped around them, fender washers to separate chamber sections, and pvc pipe

Re: Pellet air rifles for fun?
I have a gamo urban PCP Its nice, had some issues with the magazines not lining up with the bolt and shreddding the O ring on the bolt. Cleaned up the magazine with a dremel and a file to allow the bolt to freely travel. I got a SCUBA tank for fast refills too.

Turn the pellets 180' for a neat 'hollow-point''. They almost turn completely inside out.
