Just a very serious hobby at this point. Already have a full time job (well, did till this crap happened) with full time headaches and I just enjoy crafting things at my own pace for my own enjoyment.
I did sell those knives, plus a couple others, to help fund buying more tools and raw materials; but I don't take any orders or requests. Easier on my sanity that way 👍

Well, quit slacking and get to work! 😆
I regret mowing my lawn the other day. It needs it again.
I started a few (3) holster projects yesterday, and started on a pair of grips for a Blackhawk. We lost power at 2 am in those storms, finally got it back this evening. Needless to say, I didn't make any progress on any of those projects today.

Made some progress on those Blackhawk grips today.
Started with a block that was a trimming from a stock of a flintlock from a world class maker. One man's trash is definitely this man's treasure in this case.
    Slabbed out some blanks

Fit up to the grip frame and receiver

Then roughly fit to the grip frame. I start my dye process at about this fit, because I sand between each application of dye and don't want to end up undersized.

After 2 applications of black dye, sanded between each; and one application of straight dark brown dye.

I'm calling it a night at that. Tomorrow I'll pick back up in the process of inlaying some sterling silver wire, followed by the final application of "Vintage Dark Maple" TransTint dye and an oil finish.

    Thanks for following along.

Here's a pic between applications of the oil finish, and one all done and installed

As always, thanks for following along, and go make something with your hands.

I'm getting ready to make myself a bowl of cereal...

Hey, how do you get that wire inlay in there? Is it just hammered into the wood?

I'll take some pictures of the process in the next few days, but the gist of it is to cut a groove barely thinner than the wire, and then tap the wire into the groove. The wire itself is rectangular in shape, I use .008"x.055" sterling silver, sourced from an outfit in Philly.

I was trying to think of a way of asking what the wire was shaped like, but couldn't come up with "rectangular". LOL
"Flat" was what I was going to say... yeah, I think I get it now.

Thanks for the reply. Question, have you ever used black powder coated screws of the grips?

This is as creative as I've gotten.

Last night I finally remembered to fix a small problem with how my sling attaches on my AK.
I have the HK hooks that clip onto the metal sling mounts, but the mounting points are designed to loop sling material through, and the slots are too narrow - the hooks get bound up in janky positions instead of moving freely.

There are really nice "wire loop" attachments that are popular, but they cost $12+ each.
Paracord is cheap and it will do the same thing.

    Mine.

I made "loops" and fed them through the sling mount, then through themselves, so that they can be removed easily - they aren't tied directly to the mounting points.
